As Texas surfers we have always known that we share the Texas surf with sharks, but the truth is that shark attacks are not common in Texas, and the most common shark attackĀ  (a bull shark) is almost never fatal. However, a 14 foot long, 2,300 pound great white shark is truly something that is Texas-sized, and her name is Katharine, and she is headed for Texas beaches. Most recently spotted off of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, Katharine is making her way directly for the Texas coast. At this pace the great white shark will be past the Mississippi River mouth in about a week, and in the Texas waters not long after that. Are you going to paddle out when a mammoth great white shark is sharing your surf break? Odds are that you will be okay surfing in The Lone Star State. Get more info on shark attacks in Texas.
