We were stoked to see Texas surfer Cody Canzoneri’s recent interview with the Orange County Register, where he talked about his move from surfing in Texas to surfing Trestles in San Clemente, CA. Cody stated:

Q. How does the surf here compare with Texas?

A. It’s way, way better here. I grew up in small waves. … It gets good here way more than it does there. It’s like windswell … the only time we get (major) swell (in Texas) is when we get hurricanes … not often. But I learned how to do airs in windswell.

Q. How does learning to surf in sloppy Gulf waves prepare you for West Coast reef and point breaks?

A. I’m always right there, ready. In Texas, it’ll go from like 6-foot to 1-foot to choppy to clean and glassy, all in one day. Even in (poor) surf, if they run contests, you’ve got to be able to go out and do what you know how to do. If you have an attitude, you just lose your heat.
